Fairbanks Morse Engine, an EnPro Industries company, will install low load upgrade kits on the LSD - 41/49 class of U.S. Navy ships following a $4 million federal spending plan secured by Wisconsin Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin. At a press conference at Fairbanks Morse headquarters, Baldwin said, “These federal funds will help improve U.S. Naval operational availability and reduce pollution of the air and sea.... Fairbanks Morse Engine is the country's only remaining domestic producer of large ship propulsion engines and, therefore, a key contractor to the Navy.”

Fairbanks Morse Engine Awarded Contract for LHA 6

Fairbanks Morse Engine, an EnPro Industries company, announced that they have received an award from Northrop Grumman Ship Systems to supply the generator sets for LHA 6. Six (6) Fairbanks Morse Colt-Pielstick 12 cylinder PA6B diesel generators rated at 4,200 kW each will provide electrical power for auxiliary propulsion and ship's service.

With Tropical Storm Ernesto forecasted to bring up to 70-mph winds NASA is moving Space Shuttle Atlantis away from Launch Pad 39B back to the Vehicle ssembly Building as a precaution. The shuttle sits on top of the mobile launcher platform, which in turn rests on the crawler-transporter. The crawler-transporter, which weighs in at 5.5 million pounds, utilizes two (2) 16 cylinder FM/ALCO engines rated at
2,750 horsepower.

Fairbanks Morse Engine has begun a project to disassemble, clean, inspect, reassemble, and retest four engines that incurred damage from Hurricane Katrina at the Ingalls Shipyard of Northrop Grumman Ship Systems located in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The PC 2.5 engines each rated at 10,400 hp are being used as main propulsion engines for ships under construction for the U.S. Navy.
