Fairbanks Morse PA6B STC Diesel Engine Completes First Article Testing
December 6th, 2007
Beloit, Wisconsin – Fairbanks Morse Engine, an EnPro Industries company, today announced completion of American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) First Article Testing on its Colt-Pielstick PA6B STC diesel engine. The process included endurance tests, low load tests, engine tear down, and inspection. This success is the latest confirmation of the engine's robust design and versatility. Previously, the PA6B STC propulsion engine and PA6B generator set successfully completed heavy-weight, high-impact shock qualification testing in accordance with U.S. Navy MIL-S-901D requirements.

“The Fairbanks Morse Colt-Pielstick PA6B STC is the first medium speed diesel engine to complete ABS testing under Steel Vessel and Naval Vessel Rules”, said Fairbanks Morse Engine president Tony Gioffredi. “Successful completion provides further evidence that Fairbanks Morse Engine is committed to meeting our Naval and Commercial customer requirements. The fact that our engines are expected to perform under these severe conditions is one of our core competencies, and provides additional value for our customers, shareholders and the Fairbanks Morse Engine brand” added Gioffredi.

Two Fairbanks Morse Colt-Pielstick PA6B STC diesel engines, which provide 17,380 bhp (12,960 kW), will be paired with two Rolls Royce MT30 gas turbines to power the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) designed by the Lockheed Martin team.
