Beloit, Wisconsin - Fairbanks Morse Engine, an EnPro Industries company, recently achieved an outstanding safety milestone at its Beloit facility. On November 16, 2006, the facility surpassed four million hours worked without incurring a work-related injury causing an employee to be absent for a full day. The last lost-time injury occurred on December 13, 2000—over six years ago. Achieving this safety performance is exceptional, especially for a plant involved in heavy manufacturing such as Fairbanks Morse.
In his comments to employees at the awards ceremony, Tony Gioffredi, President of Fairbanks Morse, said, “I congratulate each of you for this outstanding achievement. Being a safe facility requires the highest level of safety awareness and a strong desire to prevent all accidents. We can be very proud of this accomplishment and the dedication and teamwork necessary for our safety success. A safe workplace is extremely important for our employees and their families. Our company strives to prevent each and every accident.”
Employees at the local plant were recognized at an awards ceremony during employee meetings held on December 14, 2006. The company also hosted a luncheon celebration and presented an individual award to each employee to thank them for their safety efforts.
The Fairbanks Morse safety program is led by Safety Action Teams and a Safety Steering Committee comprised of employees and managers. Representatives from the United Steelworkers Local Union 1533 serve as members of the Steering Committee and work closely with management on the safety efforts. Both hourly and salaried employees actively participate on the Safety Action Teams to identify and implement safety improvements. During 2006, all 300 employees at the Beloit facility completed SafeStart&trad; training to increase awareness and safe work practices.
