Spotlight on BRECO International

Thursday, 03 Jun 2021

Based in Houston, Texas, BRECO International, a division of Fairbanks Morse Service, has been operating for over two decades and focuses on providing fast, cost-competitive solutions to its customers. In particular, the company specializes in serving ALCO engines. In fact, its founder, Billy Rodgers, is known throughout the industry as a subject matter expert on ALCO engines and is often approached with questions from some of the nation’s most experienced technicians regarding ALCO parts and equipment.

Billy started BRECO in 2001 to leverage his industry expertise. With his daughter, Bridgette Barnes, handling the business operations and Billy running the shop, BRECO rapidly expanded while maintaining its family atmosphere and customer focus. Joe Tomaskovic joined as the company’s General Manager in Houston in 2020, while Robert Littlefield manages the company’s warehouse in Gig Harbor, Washington. The company became part of the Fairbanks Morse Service division when it was acquired in December 2020.

Aside from Billy’s national reputation, BRECO is well known for its proprietary remanufacturing process. Provided with damaged parts from engines that are no longer manufactured, BRECO’s highly skilled team can “remanufacture” components to look and perform exactly like new ones. This is especially important since it is much more cost-effective to remanufacture a part than to completely tear out and replace a ship’s engine. Remanufactured parts from BRECO’s machine shop meet all OEM specifications and maintain the highest quality standards.

Another specialty service performed only by BRECO technicians is deck boring for ALCO, Fairbanks Morse, and EMD engines. The company also provides line-boring and engine rebuild services that can be performed on-site or from the company’s shop.

BRECO holds one of the largest inventories of OEM parts in America. This is an important distinction because non-OEM parts are often of lower quality and may cause costly damage to the engine or impact its performance, requiring additional maintenance or expensive replacement.

In total, BRECO holds around 8,000 engine parts that are ready to ship worldwide from its warehouse in Gig Harbor, Washington, at a moments’ notice. This is a vital service for ship operators, most of whom don’t have time to wait for a part to come in.

Each expert technician working from BRECO’s warehouse has over ten years’ service in the industry. Its service department brings more than 40 years of experience in engine rebuilding, deck boring, and line-boring of ALCO, EMD, and Fairbanks Morse engines.

BRECO prides itself on its strong “can do” attitude, endeavoring to resolve the most challenging problems with availability 24 hours a day. As well as matching Fairbanks Morse Service’s work ethos, BRECO is expanding the company’s service support capabilities and adding another level of expertise for customers.

BRECO adds an integral new service to Fairbanks Morse’s already robust offering.
